The Debut of World’s First Electric Two-Wheelers Powered by Sodium-Ion Batteries

On July 7th, 2021, the global leading company in electric vehicles, AIMA Technology Group debuted the world’s first electric two-wheelers powered by sodium-ion batteries on the “two-wheel drive, step by step to win” international distributor conference. The CEO of AIMA Technology Group, Yong Ren, the Chair Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the founder of Natrium Energy, Zi-Feng Ma, The CTO of AIMA Technology Group, Wanli Yang, and the Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the founder of Shanghhai 01 Power Technology, Lin Yang, launched this new member of Emma engine MAX family — sodium-ion battery power system. This breakthrough initiates the industrialization of electric two-wheelers powered by sodium-ion batteries, contributing to the low-carbon and eco-friendly travel in China. Natrium Energy provides the sodium-ion batteries for AIMA Technology Group.

Prof. Zi-Feng Ma introduced the features and merits of sodium-ion batteries, as well as the research and development history and the technological advancements of Natrium Energy. The Natrium Energy team focuses on the fundamental research and industrialization of sodium-ion batteries. Since 2011, we have filed over 30 patents on cathode materials, electrolytes and cell manufacturing, and have constructed a strategic cooperation network for the whole industrial chain with independent intellectual property rights.

During the conference, the Shanghai Jiao Tong University — AIMA Technology Group Joint R&D Institute for Advanced Battery System and Intelligent Control is established. The joint institute will focus on the research, development and industrialization of advanced sodium-ion batteries and the system integration and optimization technologies.
